As part of its ongoing assistance to the DPR RI members, UNDP Parliamentary Support Programme distributed eight titles of handbooks to each of the DPR members and expert staff from the parliamentary party groups and to the parliamentary committees.  Another publication, the English version of the Five-year House Report 2004-2009, was also released as a follow up to the Indonesian version, released in September 2009. These publications are also in distribution to UN agencies, development agencies, and civil society organizations; and can be accessed on this website.

Handbooks for the DPR RI Members and Expert Staff Distributed

The handbooks highlight various aspects of parliamentary work, including the rules and ethics of the House, gender mainstreaming efforts, and communications. Not only are these topics directly related to the scope of work of the new members, they are also linked to the targets of the Millennium Development Goals, such as political representation or the participation of women in politics.

The Parliament Support Program has received positive feedback from the members.  “I am very thankful for the support and optimistic that the handbooks will be very useful for us in our parliamentary work,” said Ms. Theresia Pardede, a newly elected member from Democrat Party group.

Mr. Charles J Mesang, a member from Golkar, also expressed his enthusiasm, saying “UNDP’s publications have helped me expand my knowledge in parliamentary works particularly in supporting my role as a member of the House Budgeting Board.”

Along with the handbooks, the parliamentary support programme also distributed various knowledge products on the Millennium Development Goals, gender mainstreaming, women in parliament and human rights. The products were provided by other UN agencies as part of their efforts to integrate human development issues in the legislative process. In the future, we will also enrich our parliament support facility with more collaboration with development agencies and make available important knowledge products for the members of parliament and the expert staff.

English Version of the Five-Year House Report 2004-2009 Released

In early March 2010, the parliament support programme published the English translation of the Five-Year House Report 2004-2009, titled “Serving the Mandate and Aspiration of the People.” The original Indonesian version of the report was launched by the former House Speaker, Mr. Agung Laksono, in September 2009.

It features the number of laws passed, the number of plenary sessions held, special issues debated and hearings of government responses conducted. In addition, the report also provides detailed information on the work of the various House committees, public participation and the number of working visits, as well as the audit figures of the operating budget of the House.

The reports have been distributed to the Inter-parliament Cooperation Board, the leadership of the House, and the secretariat of the House. A softcopy of the report can be accessed at the House official website:  ://www.dpr.go.id/id/serba-serbi/Publikasi
